Port Phillip Bay?s southern reaches are home to hundreds of bottlenose dolphins and Australian fur seals. Watch them in the Bay or swim with during a cruise with one of a number of specially licensed operators based in Sorrento and Queenscliff. For those more interested in mammals of the furry variety, kangaroos and wallabies are common throughout the national parks. French Island National Park is home to Australia?s largest disease-free koala population with more than 1,500 koalas inhabiting the island. The shores of Port Phillip Bay and Westernport Bay are also alive with birds. Visit one of the parks and wetlands inhabited by dozens of bird species to see them wade, forage for food and breed in the bay shallows, many after migrating thousands of kilometres.
